5-Frame Nuc (Starter Hive)
Our 5-frame nucs are a strong, healthy way to start or expand your apiary. Each nuc is carefully established and includes everything needed to get bees building and thriving in their new home.
Each nuc includes:
4 frames with drawn comb
1 empty frame for the bees to work and build on
1 healthy southern queen
Approximately 5 lbs of bees
Pricing & Payment Details:
$150 per nuc
$50 non-refundable deposit due at the time of purchase
Remaining balance due at pickup
$25 refundable nuc box deposit, returned when the box is brought back in good condition
Availability:
Southern queen nucs are expected to be available late April through early May 2026, weather permitting.
Pickup & Notification Policy:
When your nuc is ready for pickup, you will be contacted using the information provided at purchase. If we do not receive a response within 24 hours, the nuc will be offered to the next person on our waiting list. You will then be notified when the next batch of nucs is ready.
This nuc is ideal for beginner beekeepers or those looking to grow their existing hives. Quantities are limited, and advance reservations are recommended.

Live Bee Policy: 
When you order bees online, by phone, via email, in person, or by mail you agree to the following policies, contract terms, conditions, limitations, and exceptions with Filler Family Apiary: At Filler Family Apiary, we make every attempt to have your bees ready for pick up or delivered on the scheduled date. However, the production of nucleus colony bees and queens is dependent on factors that are outside of our control, including weather patterns. As a result, Filler Family Apiary may need to rearrange scheduled dates or make other accommodations. Filler Family Apiary will provide notification to you via email, phone call, or postal mail if this situation occurs to minimize the inconvenience. We do not refund any money for nucs that are not ready on a scheduled date as long as an alternative date is provided. Our nucs are treated and healthy prior leaving our facility.  However, this does not guarantee that you will be able to successfully establish a colony or “hive” the nuc. You agree that you will not attempt to hold us responsible for whatever may happen to your bees after it is picked up or delivered to you or for the survival or productivity of the hive that you may establish from the nuc. We do not refund any money for bees that do not survive. You may request that the nuc be replaced at the time of pickup.  Please inspect your nuc prior to departing with it (typically this is done on a day prior to pickup so any bees that left upon opening have time to return).   If, upon installing the nuc your queen is dead, hive the nuc and contact us immediately and we will replace her with a new queen. There is no charge for the replacement if we are contacted within 72 hours of departing our facility with the nuc. 
Note:
This is not the hive that the bees will be staying in. You will need to have hive equipment to move the 5 frames into when you pick up the nuc. Filler Family Apiary does have equipment for sale. Please check our website or contact us for more information on equipment.
